行星 Planet 的新定义

2006年8月24日开始，所有新出版的辞典和教科书都要给Planet（行星）重新下定义了：

A planet is a celestial body that (a) is in orbit around the Sun, (b) has sufficient

mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a

hydrostatic equilibrium (nearly round) shape, and (c) has cleared the neighbourhood

around its orbit.

根据国际天文学联合会大会24日通过的新定义，“行星”指的是围绕太阳运转、自身引力足以克服其刚体力而使天体呈圆球状、并且能够清除其轨道附近其他物体的天体。

根据新定义，太阳系行星包括水星（Mercury）、金星（Venus）、地球（Earth）、火星（Mars）、木星（Jupiter）、土星（Saturn）、天王星（Uranus）和海王星（Neptune）八大行星。
